DIY Business Card Holder

Some of the local businesses in my area allow you to leave business cards. I wanted some little tents or easels to hold my business cards neatly rather than just leaving a stack on a shelf. And some businesses have bulletin boards you can post things on. I didn’t want to just stick cards in an envelope or have a push pin through a half dozen cards. I wanted to make little hangers for the boards.
When it comes to craft and art projects, I am the LEAST artistic person. I cannot draw a straight line with a ruler. Apparently, I cannot cut a straight line either. The only thing I’ve ever been pretty good at is folding paper, i.e., Origami. So I started my project by searching for SIMPLE Origami ideas that would suit my purpose.
I started by just folding index cards to make a simple tent. In the first photo below, the front right is my favorite of the 3 versions shown. It is a 3×5 index card with 3 folds and a tab creased in half & taped in the middle of the tent so it won’t go flat.
I was thinking of doing an origami box to put the index tent card in. (See example here.) Then thought — what about a mint tin or gift box that I already have which would not involve any labor on my part. See the 1st photo, rear right. An index card tent is inside the box to hold cards upright. I didn’t end up loving the end result, so I pressed on.
I saw something called Card Cues. They sell 10 for ~$9 plus shipping. It looked like something pretty easy to make. I came across this idea to use a cereal box to make something similar. I made two versions, but found the cereal box to be a bit too thick and I didn’t care for the way the tabs folded in to form the sides. These are shown in the first two photos, rear left and middle. I modified an easel for the back so it would stand and had to add an extra foot to stabilize it.
Then I came across a reuse idea using an Orbit Gum pack (see here). I don’t chew gum, but I invested $2 on a pack to use the box as a template and came up with the version shown in the rest of the photos. I used a 4×6 index card for the box part, and then printed on another 4×6 index card for the “Please Take One”. I used 2 sided tape for the fold up flap and to hold the advertiser part into the box.
